Administration of Tripura

Like all other states of India, Tripura is governed by a Chief Minister and a council of other ministers responsible to an elected unicameral legislature and by a Governor, appointed by the President of India. The role of Governor is largely ceremonial. Tripura has 2 seats in the Lok Sabha – Tripura East and Tripura West.

Tripura Legislature

legislative assembly

It was in the year 1949 when the Tripura administration order was passed. In the year 1957 the first election was held in Tripura. It was in the year 1971 that Tripura attained statehood of the Indian union. The state legislative assembly consists of sixty seats and the first election was held in the year 1972. The chief minister is appointed by the President and other ministers by the President on the advice of the Chief Minister. The council of ministers is collectively responsible for the Legislative assembly.
