Healthcare in Tripura
One of the seven north eastern states of India, Tripura is a developing state which is undergoing various stages of progress in order to become an advanced place. Health, which is a very important sector in a state is looked after by the government of Tripura with due care. Steps are being taken in order to set up the best hospitals here and provide the best schemes to the people. According to data of 1999-2000, the number of doctors in Tripura stands at 32 per 100,000 persons, 32.9 nurses ber 3.6 persons and 30 midwives per 100,000 persons.
Health Schemes under Tripura Government
Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programmes (RNTCB)
Of the eight districts in Tripura, 5 are RNTCP reporting districts of TB. The districts also have sub-districts for better execution of the programme.
National Programmes for Control of Blindness (NPCB)
The main objective of this programme is to remove the possibility of getting blind by the year 2020. Its primary activities are:
- Cataract Surgery
- School Eye Screening Programme
- IEC Activities
- Eye Banking activities
- Developing of infrastructures for IOL facilities
National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP)
In order to prevent some of the vector botrne diseases such as Malaria, Dengue, Lymphatic Filariasis, Kala-azar, Japanese Encephalitis and Chikungunya, the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) was started by the Government of India.
National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP)
A bacterial disease, the government has taken necessary steps in order to prevent Leprosy amongst the masses as well. The programmes aims at providing the best treatment to the already affected and preventing the spreading of the disease any further.

The
National Health Mission (NHM) under the Government of India is a
division of health and family welfare that looks into all issues
relating to it. This organisation is responsible for building new
hospitals in a state and introducing the best possible schemes and
programmes for the people. The NHM has taken initiative to set up
hospitals and other health centres in a state in order to give the best
facility to the people here in Tripura. The successful venture by NHM

Hospitals in Tripura
Tripura, one of the northeastern states in India, has several hospitals located in the major towns and cities here. Agartala Government Medical College
The Agartala Medical college was established in the year 2005, whose foundation stone was laid by none other than, the then Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. The college is entirely run by the Tripura Government and is affiliated to the Tripura University.

Tripura Medical College & Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital
The Tripura Medical College is located at Hapania in the West Tripura district. Established in the year 2005 by the Government of Tripura and Global Education Net, it is the first kind of venture in India. From 2009 onwards however, due to the inability of Global Education Net to run the college, the college has been since then running through a registered society under the Government of Tripura.
